This role reports to the Unit Manager and is responsible for the direct handling of multi-line business claims including auto, general liability and construction defect. Duties include researching and evaluating coverage, liability and benefits issues. The role is responsible for evaluating claims, establishing/recommending appropriate reserves, managing litigation, resolving cases and handling events in line with the company's and client's strategic vision.

Important features
- Directly handles and/or assists in the monitoring, review and coordination of activities related to multi-line business insurance, including the analysis of coverage issues, the establishment of adequate reserves and the settlement and resolution of claims.
- Monitors damage reports; confirm and interpret the scope of the policy; create adequate reserves; and investigates and processes claims for primary, umbrella and additional insurance.
- Ensures proper filing, backup, general processing and application of company procedure.
- Manages litigation with preferred counsel under alternative fee arrangements or other defense fee structures. Seeks and maximizes all opportunities to transfer risk through contract or signature language.
- Determines and manages the work of the defense attorney, the appointment of expert witnesses and communication with colleagues, including the planning and execution of defense and compensation agreements, assessment of liability and damages, and participation in settlement negotiations.
- Participates in advertising strategy development, including defense coordination, litigation strategy and budgets, and cost control.
- Records specific loss data and, if necessary, provides related financial and general statistical data to the supervisor.
- Maintains journal controls, researches, analyzes and prepares reports to ensure adequate reserves are maintained to reflect the company's risk and reports to our reinsurance department to assist reinsurers and the reinsurance department to notify certain amounts to be recovered when payment exceeds the company's retention amount.
